What is a website positioning?
Website positioning
is a process of placing your website high in SERP's
of the most popular search engines (SERP – search engine result page).
Search engines analyze
web pages and bring results for a particular query. The goal of a website
positioning is the high ranking of pages in response to certain keywords.
Positioning on the most popular keywords is done by applying special techniques,
which is broadly described in our positioning and
optimalization forum.
The basics of positioning and optimalization
Most people think that positioning requires a lot of knowledge about the
Internet. It can't be further from the truth. Positioning of most pages is quite
easy as long as the keywords used are not too competitive. I will give you some
basics on how to position your pages, which should be sufficient to most of you.
<title></title>
A well-formulated title of your page is extremely important. Dobrze
sformułowany tytuł strony jest bardzo ważny. It will not only list you in the
right category but it will also be read by Internet users before they enter your
site. The title should include your keywords, preferably right at the beginning.
It should be coherent and make sense. You should spend some time to think about
it; "welcome to my great site - www.mysite.com" is not a very valuable title.
The words that it contains have no chance of ever being queried for.
<meta name="description" content="blahblahblah">
This is one of a few Meta tags that is still considered by search engines. It
should contain a well-formulated description of your page with your keywords. In
some search engines, it is used for displaying information about the page in the
search results. It should also encourage people to visit your page.
<meta name="keywords" content="blahblahlbah">
Not used by most search engines but you can't forget about it, because it is
treated like the text of the page. A bit of work and effort will have to go in
this. You should not repeat your keywords too often – twice is enough. Make sure
that this tag is not too long.

<h1><h2><h3><h4><h5><h6>
Heading tags with numbers from 1 to 6 determine the size of the text font. By
using them, imagine a newspaper heading. The main heading is the most important,
so it is the largest. You will use <h1>your heading</h1> for it and you will do
it only once on your page. Other headings can be used more often. The heading
should be short, make sense, and contain your keywords.
<b><u><i>
<b> - bold font <u> - underlined <i> - italics. Those tags are used for
emphasis of certain words. They should be used on your keywords.

Any pictures on your pages should have an "alt" tag (alternative text). You
can place you keywords in them. Alt's are used by handicapped people such as the
blind (these tags should make sense for this reason), and by using them, you
make your pages accessible.
Text on your page
You have to use your keywords but be very careful not to scare your visitors
away. At the beginning, you can place a few keywords, remembering about those
<b><u><I> tags.

A text link is one of the most important elements in positioning your page.
The text should include the keywords.
Link structure
Each page of your site should be maximum two clicks away from your main page.
Search engine robots go from one link to another and they should be able to find
your pages easily.
Site map
Sitemap is a page that contains all the links to the most important pages of
your site. Remember to use text links. All robots like sitmaps, so you have to
put a little effort into it. On big sites, they may prove very useful to
visitors as well.
